Basics

Kenya is a vibrant country in East Africa, known for its wildlife safaris, diverse cultures, and welcoming people. It has a population of about 55 million people, with Nairobi as the capital city.

In Greece, the official language is Greek, but you’ll find that many people—especially in urban areas and tourist regions—speak English, making communication easier for visitors. Greece is considered a safe country for mission work, with friendly locals and low crime rates, though it’s always wise to take normal travel precautions and stay alert in busy public areas. The country enjoys a classic Mediterranean climate, meaning hot, dry summers and mild, rainy winters. Summers are perfect for outdoor ministry and community activities, while spring and autumn offer pleasant, comfortable weather for travel and outreach.

Kenya’s economy is driven by agriculture, tourism, and technology. The national currency is the Kenyan Shilling (KES).

Kenyan meals are simple, hearty, and often shared. Staples include ugali (cornmeal), sukuma wiki (greens), chapati, nyama choma (grilled meat), and beans.

Kenya is famous for its safaris, national parks, beaches, and cultural festivals. From exploring Maasai traditions to enjoying wildlife tours, there is so much to see and experience.

Greece is often called the cradle of Western civilization, known for its ancient contributions to democracy, philosophy, literature, and the arts. From the city-states of Athens and Sparta to the rise of Alexander the Great, Greek history has shaped much of the world. Later, Greece became part of the Roman Empire and then the Byzantine Empire, which helped spread Christianity throughout the region.

Today, religion remains central to Greek identity. The majority of Greeks belong to the Greek Orthodox Church, which has deeply influenced the country’s culture, traditions, and festivals. Churches and monasteries are found across the nation, many dating back centuries. Religious holidays like Easter are celebrated with great devotion and community spirit.
